A JOHNHOUSHMAND Zen Garden

· Events, Furniture Designs, Uncategorized · , , , , , , , ,

JOHNHOUSHMAND AT THE ICFFIt has been a whirlwind of a weekend with the kickoff of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF)!  The JOHNHOUSHMAND team stayed up late Friday putting the finishing touches on our very own zen garden at booth #1122.

JOHNHOUSHMAND AT THE ICFF

We wanted to let the natural beauty of our furniture speak for itself in a calming oasis.  Using sand, stones, slate tiles, and moss we created a unique environment for our wood, metal and glass pieces.  We even developed a special sand-paste in order to make a one-0f-a-kind flooring that looks like loose sand but can be walked across freely without breaking the swirling pattern.

Additionally for this special occasion JOHNHOUSHMAND debuted two new pieces!  Both the Tattooed Acrylic Cicada Side Table and the Petrified Wood Low Table were noticeable show stoppers amongst the classics on show.  JOHNHOUSHMAND was one of hundreds of exhibitors at the fair this year including Kohler, Jonathan Adler, Lindsey Adelman, Charles Pollock, Blu Dot, Artek, and many more.

When we say custom we really mean it.  Slab selection is a unique process at JOHNHOUSHMAND in order to give our customers truly one-of-a-kind pieces.

Slab Selection - No. 0187

It begins after the client picks one of the over 200 pieces in our product portfolio.  One of our awesome salespeople then discusses specifics such as wood species and dimensions for the piece.  Once the salesperson receives the client’s specs he/she then talks to Jim, our production manager at our 950-acre facility.  Jim will then go to our abundant library of slabs searching for the top four slabs that best match the client’s criteria.  The client chooses from these four slabs and we can begin producing a distinctive piece suited just for them.  Here are some photos of slab selection process for one of our No. 0187.1 Shazam low tables for a client.

Visitors are welcome to come by the shop to take a look around anytime. It is quite the operation and allows us to control each detail of a project. Plus, it gives our clients the opportunity to be creative and conjure up work that is like no other in our style. If by chance you find yourself in upstate New York one day, just let us know and we will give you a tour!

Design Alive

JOHNHOUSHMAND was recently featured in the cutting-edge Polish magazine, Design Alive.  This first ever issue of Design Alive highlights new trends in design, with an emphasis on uniquely beautiful, singularly made pieces.

JOHNHOUSHMAND No. 0173.2 Pine Stump Low Table

The 0173.2 Pine Stump Low Table emulates this ideal perfectly.  While more conventional sensibilities might regard a tree stump as a throwaway – as an unusable remnant of the design process – we at JOHNHOUSHMAND know that the gnarled base of a tree, provides endlessly appreciable, aesthetic complexity. Check out other variations here:  No. 0173No. 0173.1No. 0173.3, and No. 0173.5.

Thinking Outside the Box

Just in time for spring, JOHNHOUSHMAND has refreshed a design favorite:  the No. 0187 Shazam Low Table.  Most often seen in Black Walnut, this beautiful glass box has been rejuvenated with a lighter touch – a luminous microslab of Spalted Maple.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0187.6 Spalted Maple Shazam Low Table While the Black Walnut microslab mimics rich leather, the Spalted Maple resembles fine marble, but no matter what your taste this Shazam Low Table is sure to make a statement.

No. 008.10: Low Table

· Furniture Designs, Uncategorized · ,

Every great designer aspires to create unique pieces that will last a lifetime.  JOHNHOUSHMAND‘s No. 008.10 Low Table has become one of those pieces.

JOHNHOUSHMAND: No. 008.10This elegant low table was commissioned by Interieurs and for good reason not much has been changed since John designed the first No. 008 low table; the piece still retains all the vitality and contemporaneity it had when it was first created.  The smooth slab of elm rests on two 3/4 inch glass legs to create the perfect addition to any home.  Attention grabbing but subdued, this low table is a tried and true JOHNHOUSHMAND classic.

New Piece: No. 0221 Acrylic Low Table

· Furniture Designs · , ,

At JOHNHOUSHMAND we’re always trying to push the limits, and with our No. 0221 Acrylic Low Table we’ve done just that.  This addition to the JOHNHOUSHMAND collection was inspired by our ingenious cast aluminum pieces such as the No. 0103.4 Cast Aluminum Low Table and the No. 0048.3 2 Fold Cast Aluminum Desk.

JOHNHOUSHMAND No. 0221

Though the production process used to create this Acrylic Low Table is very similar to its Cast Aluminum counterparts, the translucent quality acts in a very different and dynamic way.  Due to the varied texture of the walnut slab which the table was cast from, it acts as a reflective prism to create a multifaceted facade for this unique piece of furniture.  Where the texture is smooth the light hazily glows through while in the grainy, rough parts the light breaks creating luminous depth.

JOHNHOUSHMAND No. 0221

This new acrylic addition really is the perfect icy alternative to the now classic cast aluminum table.
