Springing Forward

With St. Patrick’s day just around the corner we’ve decided to show our Irish spirit by adding a touch of green to our newest dining table, No. 0233.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0233

No. 0233, the two slab bookmatch black walnut square dining table with laquered metal tube legs is JOHNHOUSHMAND‘s first foray into color.  The twelve green legs act not only to support this 7′ x 7’ black walnut table top but also accentuate the beautiful tones in the grain.

We’ve shown you our green, now you show us yours.

JOHNHOUSHMAND spotlighted in Design Alive Magazine

Design Alive

JOHNHOUSHMAND was recently featured in the cutting-edge Polish magazine, Design Alive.  This first ever issue of Design Alive highlights new trends in design, with an emphasis on uniquely beautiful, singularly made pieces.

JOHNHOUSHMAND No. 0173.2 Pine Stump Low Table

The 0173.2 Pine Stump Low Table emulates this ideal perfectly.  While more conventional sensibilities might regard a tree stump as a throwaway – as an unusable remnant of the design process – we at JOHNHOUSHMAND know that the gnarled base of a tree, provides endlessly appreciable, aesthetic complexity. Check out other variations here:  No. 0173No. 0173.1No. 0173.3, and No. 0173.5.

Thinking Outside the Box

Just in time for spring, JOHNHOUSHMAND has refreshed a design favorite:  the No. 0187 Shazam Low Table.  Most often seen in Black Walnut, this beautiful glass box has been rejuvenated with a lighter touch – a luminous microslab of Spalted Maple.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0187.6 Spalted Maple Shazam Low Table While the Black Walnut microslab mimics rich leather, the Spalted Maple resembles fine marble, but no matter what your taste this Shazam Low Table is sure to make a statement.

Smokey and Sleek

What’s black, and white and sleek all over?  Sporty and sleek, this No. 0149.36 smokey acrylic dining chair with bleached Spalted Maple legs is a fun, new addition to our family of No. 0149 bent acrylic dining chairs.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0149.36Dark but lustrous, the 1/2″ bent acrylic acts as the perfect contrast against the bright white of the bleached Spalted Maple.  The dark shade of the acrylic is enhanced by the bright gleams of light that reflect on it, while the bright white of the Spalted Maple is accentuated by the dark lines in the grain.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0149.36Bold and simple, this piece is perfectly suited to be the center of attention.

Out of Sight Out of Mind?

At JOHNHOUSHMAND we are continuously looking for unexpected beauty in trees, glass, and metal.  One of our most recent sources of inspiration has come from a surprising place:  underground.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - Root Table No. 164.1

The root of a tree is something that most people don’t think twice about, but we sure do.  In fact, this Cherry Root Coffee Table (No. 164.1) is only the second root table we’ve ever made.  This is a special piece as roots are particularly hard to find intact and in good shape for use as a base for a beautiful coffee table.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 164.1 Root Coffee Table

We love the dimensionality of the wood as it fuses with the glass from both sides.  The ends of the roots have been given a new life as they pierce through the starfire glass to truly create a one-of-a-kind piece.  From the ground, to our shop in Hobart, this root has already been on a quite a journey… the next stop?  Back down under to a beautiful home in Australia.

The Little Nell Hotel

The Little Nell

The Little Nell Hotel in Aspen, Colorado has gone under a complete transformation in the hands of the acclaimed design firm: Holly Hunt.  Just this winter, Holly Hunt Design completed the makeover of the Little Nell’s living room utilizing luxurious leathers, rich woods and custom-made JOHNHOUSHMAND pieces.

Hunt and her design team updated the 22 year old 5-star hotel with an “Aspen Modern” look, thereby preserving the comfortable lodge feeling yet opening up the space with more streamlined design.  To this eclectic mix, JOHNHOUSHMAND contributed two matching end tables (No. 0229) and a 3-piece coffee table (No. 0228).

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0228

No. 0228, the 3-piece black walnut coffee table, is made from a single slab and blackened steel legs. The center table features an open-frame, rectangular base, perfect for storing and displaying books. The two corresponding end tables include a three-plated, Y-shaped base. The asymmetrical nature of these bases allow for flexibility in placement, with no one face being dominant to the others. The slab selected for the top, which includes two prominent knot holes and a desaturated, live edge was chosen for its unique character and rustic appeal.

JOHNHOUSHMAND - No. 0229

The base of No. 0228 is echoed in the contemporary design of No. 0229 – two, glass topped, end tables which are mirror reflections of one another. These bases are also Y-shaped, but being made of black walnut, have narrow live edges and beautiful, streaks of natural color variations.

These pieces were designed especially for a project and a place where nature and cutting edge design meet.
