Design mavens Cortney and Robert Novogratz of SixxDesign are best known for their effortless combinations of contemporary and classic design. JOHNHOUSHMAND is thrilled to have worked with this design duo on several notable projects including the The Bungalow Hotel at the Jersey Shore.
In a recent article by InsideOut magazine about this new venture the Novogratzs explain their aim for the hotel, a theme that is “chilled, comfortable, casual and chic” as well as their almost obsessive attention to detail “from the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs and fun bar coasters, to the beautiful wood detailing in the lobby and bar – a design collaboration with JOHNHOUSHMAND – the light-hearted vibe complements the surfing/beach concept nicely”.

JOHNHOUSHMAND is all about custom, one of a kind, luxury. While these self-aggrandizing adjectives might be be a high target for some, we have 10 years of hitting this mark under our tool belts.
Our new piece: No. 0186.3, a black walnut dining table with curved blackened steel legs, is a perfect example of this. The unique curve of the fish tale slab, the bird’s nest hole set right in the center of the dining area, the highly contrasting marbleization of the wood’s surface – these characteristics would be mighty hard to replicate. Take a look for yourself ….
For the design collector who is part curator, part director
(New York, September, 2011) JOHNHOUSHMAND is pleased to announce the launch of the Cast Aluminum Director’s Chair, No. 0222. Designed by the folks who created such unforgettable pieces as the Brick Club Chair, the Bronze Chaise Lounge, and the Doily Glass Cube – the Cast Aluminum Director’s Chair is the most recent addition to JOHNHOUSHMAND’s avant-garde furniture collection.
This foray into liquid metal is a reinterpretation of JOHNHOUSHMAND’s design manifesto, which prizes the organic, sustainable, and natural beauty of wood. In contrast, the Director’s Chair is more whimsical and far less grounded in reality. Nudged on by Marc Newson’s Lockheed Lounge and Philippe Starck’s Paramount Hotel, it is an ironic and witty trip down the rabbit hole, with references to Hollywood culture and bacchanalian luxury along the way.
No. 0222 is offered in two finishes: high polish and shot peen finish, in which the entire surface is dimpled creating a soft, satin feel. No. 0222 is also available in three sizes: 18”, 24” and 30” tall. The seat and back rests of both styles are made of a decadently soft brown leather. This new, iconic piece, molded from pure aluminum, is part fine art, part functional furniture.
In the July issue of Home Accents Today, JOHNHOUSHMAND was featured in “Old Made New”, an article that covered trends at ICFF 2011. Our No. 0188, a spalted maple side table with crackled acrylic and bronze legs was highlighted as “contemporary-cum-organic design.”
We think this piece would make an amazing living room accent, and we were thrilled to be highlighted in this magazine alongside Indeco’s lamps, Edition 14′s cabinets, and Tracy Glover‘s glass sculptures!

JOHNHOUSHMAND just finished installing a sublime fireplace mantel, No. 0210, in one of architect Jo Machinist’s creations in the heart of the Hudson River Valley. This beautifully pastoral area is home to the Hudson River School, where painters Thomas Cole, Albert Bierstadt, and Frederic Church painted the valley in all its romantic glory. This mantelpiece is a welcome addition to this tradition, celebrating the natural beauty of the area.
This rustic solid maple timber mantel with hand-hammered bronze pitons was installed in an airy, light-filled great room. Take a look at the slide show to see it from all angles.
The Hyatt Regency in Atlanta, Georgia, originally designed by Atlanta architect John Portman in 1967, is undergoing a transformation. This award-winning luxury hotel was the first contemporary atrium hotel in the world and at the time of opening was the tallest building in Atlanta.
JOHNHOUSHMAND, in conjunction with tvsdesign, a design firm specializing in architectural, interior, sustainable and urban design, had the pleasure of designing the two-fold black walnut bell and reception desks, black walnut console tables with glass legs, and valet stand at the Hyatt Regency.
I’m not talking about hate… I’m talking about eight. Dinner at eight! Let’s eat!

Dining tables are a cornerstone of the JOHNHOUSHMAND series. It is where we explore and refine many of our core design concepts, where we test the interaction between materials, and where we debut new developments in an already nuanced collection.
Perhaps this is the case because the dining table is also, in many ways, the cornerstone of the home. It is where we come to eat, to work, to play, and to gather together in celebration with those people closest to us. We believe the elegant yet bold style of our dining tables offers the perfect destination for these varied activities. Simple enough to be inviting, but dynamic enough to draw you in.
This holiday season JOHNHOUSHMAND is offering a DINING TABLE SALE so you can entertain in style, and enjoy those memories for years to come.
