You know what they say: all work and no play makes Jack… or John a dull boy. That’s why we’ve started to blur the line between work and play with some of our specialty tables!
Like the Bowling Alley table that came before it, No. 1037, the Cast Aluminum Playing Card Table adds a personal touch to any room it’s placed in. From Go Fish to Rummy, this miniature Cast Aluminum table is perfect for any card game so get ready to lay your cards on the table.
It has been a whirlwind of a weekend with the kickoff of the International Contemporary Furniture Fair (ICFF)! The JOHNHOUSHMAND team stayed up late Friday putting the finishing touches on our very own zen garden at booth #1122.
We wanted to let the natural beauty of our furniture speak for itself in a calming oasis. Using sand, stones, slate tiles, and moss we created a unique environment for our wood, metal and glass pieces. We even developed a special sand-paste in order to make a one-0f-a-kind flooring that looks like loose sand but can be walked across freely without breaking the swirling pattern.
Additionally for this special occasion JOHNHOUSHMAND debuted two new pieces! Both the Tattooed Acrylic Cicada Side Table and the Petrified Wood Low Table were noticeable show stoppers amongst the classics on show. JOHNHOUSHMAND was one of hundreds of exhibitors at the fair this year including Kohler, Jonathan Adler, Lindsey Adelman, Charles Pollock, Blu Dot, Artek, and many more.
For those in the know, ICFF is a time-honored tradition, but for those yet to be acquainted with one of North America’s biggest tradeshows, the International Contemporary Furniture Fair, here is a quick play by play!
ICFF annually hosts over 25,000 designers, architects, interior designers, retailers, manufacturers, developers, distributors, and representatives at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. This year the ICFF is hosting representatives from Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, China, Denmark, El Salvador, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Scotland, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom, and U.S. One part of the U.S. proponent? JOHNHOUSHMAND (for the second year in a row)!
We will be located at booth #1122 & and exhibiting a carefully curated collection of both never before seen pieces as well as timeless JOHNHOUSHMAND classics. Come join us!
The Cast Aluminum Director’s Chair emulates the spirit of the holiday season with its high polish finish, rich leather and understated elegance. At just 24 inches wide, 16 inches deep and 33 inches high this chair can be folded to fit right under the Christmas tree.
JOHNHOUSHMAND is very pleased to have been recently featured on That Vegan Blog for our winning combination of sleek sustainability and attention-grabbing design as well as DesignSpotter with our new take on a modern classic: the brand new No. 0222 Cast Aluminum Director’s Chair.
Check out both blogs for your daily dose of design inspiration be it for products, books, events, sustainable furniture or interior design.
Though the production process used to create this Acrylic Low Table is very similar to its Cast Aluminum counterparts, the translucent quality acts in a very different and dynamic way. Due to the varied texture of the walnut slab which the table was cast from, it acts as a reflective prism to create a multifaceted facade for this unique piece of furniture. Where the texture is smooth the light hazily glows through while in the grainy, rough parts the light breaks creating luminous depth.
This new acrylic addition really is the perfect icy alternative to the now classic cast aluminum table.
Here at JOHNHOUSHMAND we’re always looking for new sources of inspiration. This time it’s graphite.
Our No. 0186.2, a live edge white oak dining table, was ebonized with a silver grain filler and hand-rubbed until it emulated the beautiful sheen and tone of graphite.
This one-of-a-kind handworked rub can also be seen in our No. 0220 high bar which was recently produced for a client with a chic home in Acapulco.
Both pieces were interestingly created just in time for back-to-school: we can smell the sharpened pencils here already!
In Apartment Therapy‘s recap of ICFF 2011, JOHNHOUSHMAND‘s No. 0103.4 Cast Aluminum Low Table was featured among other silver-hued design pieces. If you’ve admired our Cast Aluminum Dining Table but don’t have the space for such a stately piece, consider the Cast Aluminum Low Table’s features: This table was sandcast in aluminum from a mulberry slab and features black walnut legs. At 62″ long, 30″ deep and 15″ high, this low table would make a perfect coffee table in a light-filled living room or an entryway’s unforgettable focal point.
Included designers were hand selected for their embodiment of Audi’s dual goals of technical excellence and unparalleled style. Here is what the curators had to say:
John Houshmand found his muse in Mother Nature; he approaches all of his work allowing the naturally harvested materials he uses to guide the creative process. Before being mounted on black walnut legs, his iconic cast aluminum table was poured with pure aluminum — the same astonishingly strong yet amazingly light ingredient in the frame of the new Audi A8. Like Houshmand’s masterpiece, the Audi ASF® is liberated by a balance of sleek style and lightweight engineering that results in a breathtakingly beautiful yet efficiently sound design.
It was a beautiful evening of hors d’oeuvres and champagne, surrounded by inspiring design items in a gallery setting. Take a look at the slideshow we put together!

We love our clients and not just because they have excellent taste (cough, cough) – but particularly because each one puts their own unique spin on their JOHNHOUSHMAND custom design. Digital media executive, entrepreneur, field hockey star, and techie Christine Hunsicker was the first client to purchase our innovative cast aluminum desk (seen below).
This piece was installed last year in Hunsicker’s downtown NYC loft apartment; a space that oozes effortless style from floor to vaulted ceiling. Pairing the desk with a burnt-tangerine, Scandinavian wood chair, a vegetable-dyed, Cubex lounger, bespoke JOHNHOUSHMAND“Bungalow” shelving, high-gloss floors, and a mountain of books (all actually read!) Hunsicker curated an environment where any creative would feel inspired. It is no surprise that the President/COO behind Right Media, the online exchange scooped up by Yahoo! Inc., would be able to “optimize” the impact of such divergent items. (Nerd joke alert). Plus, the way the light from Hunsicker’s two-story glass wall plays on the super-reflective surface of our cast aluminum table really highlights our handiwork!
