JOHNHOUSHMAND in Marie Claire

JOHNHOUSHMAND‘s No. 0015 appears in the December 2011 issue of Marie Claire Magazine in “The Mood” section to show that nature, herself  is still an awe inspiring source of ingenuity and artistry. Katie L. Connor highlights  Southern California’s Joshua Tree National Park and states that even “the fashion world, too, turns to the desert. Between rich, earthy separates and carved wooden extras, the beauty is obvious..” On that note in 2012, do not just be observers in your surroundings but use them as a funnel for creativity and personal expression!

Design mavens Cortney and Robert Novogratz of SixxDesign are best known for their effortless combinations of contemporary and classic design. JOHNHOUSHMAND is thrilled to have worked with this design duo on several notable projects including the  The Bungalow Hotel at the Jersey Shore.

JOHNHOUSHMAND: Bungalow HotelIn a recent article by InsideOut magazine about this new venture the Novogratzs explain their aim for the hotel, a theme that is “chilled, comfortable, casual and chic” as well as their almost obsessive attention to detail “from the ‘Do Not Disturb’ signs and fun bar coasters, to the beautiful wood detailing in the lobby and bar – a design collaboration with JOHNHOUSHMAND – the light-hearted vibe complements the surfing/beach concept nicely”.

Black Walnut Low Table Bench with Bronze Legs

WOOD Design is a blog highlighting designers from 5 continents making tables, seating, storage, and objects from natural wood.

“At WOOD we aim to define & inform upon a new marketplace in which we bring together wood artists who demonstrate core values in design, sourcing of material, quality & diversity in the objects they produce and people looking to explore beautiful, contemporary, made to last furnishings.”

We are pleased to say that JOHNHOUSHMAND‘s No. 0015.4 Black Walnut Low Table/Bench with 3/4″ Bronze Legs was featured on their blog which is filled with fellow designers who embody a conscientious philosophy and an attentive use of wood. No. 0015.4 promotes the inherent beauty of wood in its natural state, lending a bold statement to any interior space.

“I have spent my entire life making things. When I was a kid growing up in the Philippines, toys from the US were scarce. If you wanted a boat or a toy gun, you made it. And although we westerners are additive in our assemblies, indigenous peoples are subtractive. A machete and a chunk of wood became that boat. Elemental and sincere … Now we make furniture. sculpture. architectural work…we design environments, installations, residential, spa, and even retail spaces. At one end of the spectrum it is functional, at the other end it is dreaming. Bringing the future into the present and insisting that it be beautiful, inspiring, and elemental.”  Read more here.
